Nick
Nick, best friend to Andrew, is the resident late-bloomer in a big hurry to grow up. His own insecurities seem to be exacerbated as Andrew seems to be already fully engrossed in puberty.

Andrew, best friend to Nick, is hit hard by puberty. In Season 1, he hilariously struggles to control his urges. In Season 2 he is tormented by shame.

Jessi
As if puberty isn't hard enough, Jessi also navigates her parent's divorce. Between her first period, bra shopping, and her Bat Mitzvah, Jessi is busy becoming a strong young woman.

Missy
Missy is the more sheltered and nerdy of the bunch. For the first couple episodes, she and Andrew get together. In Season 2, Missy struggles with body image issues.

Jay
Neglected son and the youngest of three brothers, Jay develops a mean case of intimacy issues along with a side of toxic masculinity. At the end of Season 2, he questions his sexuality.

Coach Steve
Man-child and virgin (until mid Season 1), Steve is the kids P.E. teacher who, despite being middle-aged, still has an aging hormone monster of his own. At one point, he is tasked with teaching sex ed but ends up learning from the kids.

Maury - Hormone Monster
Vulgar, ruthless, and popping up at the worst times, Maury represents the puberty taking over Andrew's thoughts and actions. Maury is his own character, separate from Andrew's personality, yet a dominant force in his life.

Connie - Hormone Monstress
Connie takes over in the lives of Jessi and Missy. Causing them to explore sexual urges and explode at their mothers, Connie represents what puberty does to them.

Shame Wizard
The Shame Wizard emerges in Season 2 as the enemy to the Hormone Monsters. The Shame Wizard causes the kids to feel shameful about their feelings and urges, often prompting self loathing and isolation.
